Gcap aircraft: international coordination is born

Intergovernmental body will supervise operation of three companies

A joint organization and industrial group between Japan, Great Britain and Italy will be established next week to better coordinate the development program of the sixth generation military aircraft Gcap (Global Combat Air Program). The trilateral agreement will be signed in Tokyo. The intergovernmental body will supervise the work of the British company Bae Systems, the Japanese Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and the Italian Leonardo.

It was reported by some international media, citing sources familiar with the plan. This new organization will distribute the work to the various teams working on the different parts of the Gcap aircraft, such as the powertrain and avionics.

The agreement, which parliamentarians from each of the three countries will have to ratify, comes a year after they established their first major collaboration in the defense sector, bringing together individual national programs for the development of next-generation military aircraft, namely the Tempest of London and the Japanese Mitsubishi FX. As anticipated in recent months, the headquarters of the Gcap program will be in Great Britain.
