The letter sent to the Competition and Market Authority (AGCM) by the Transport Department of the Sardinia Region fuels the debate on air ticket prices, considered "vexatious" towards the island and the Sardinians. After the report against the Spanish low-cost airline Volotea, which sold an Olbia-Rome flight at the price of 410 Euros, warnings about high prices are multiplying.

Although the busiest months of Summer 2023 are now behind us, there are many flights between the island and the peninsula which at the beginning of September were sold at a price exceeding the 300 Euro threshold, a fare four times higher than expected from the territorial continuity regime reserved for residents and workers on the island. These examples mainly concern last-minute bookings such as those for work or life emergencies.

These are some prices: Cagliari-Roma on 5 September at 200-260 Euros; the Cagliari-Milan at more than 300 euros; Olbia-Roma in December over 400 Euros; Cagliari-Linate (with stops in Rome and Naples) today at 678 Euros. The Ministry of Business and Made in Italy (Mimit) has announced that the letter from the Sardinia Region to the Antitrust, which opened an investigation into the behavior of low-cost airlines in January, is part of the government's policy of regulating the market.
