The Minister of Enterprise and Made in Italy (Mimit), Adolfo Urso, was heard this morning at the Productive Activities Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, where he spoke about Italy's space and aerospace policy. Among the main issues that emerged: the need to write a law linked to the next budget manoeuvre; the pre-eminence of the geopolitical perspective which must be ever more agile and clear.

"Italy was one of the first space powers" and today "the sector is one of the most strategic" from an industrial point of view. More than "300 companies" operate in the peninsula and "there are 50,000 specialized workers, out of a total of 200,000 in the supply chain, which engages over 4,000 companies that make up the related industries". The panorama made up "of both large players present on international markets and small and medium-sized enterprises, such as start-ups and spin-offs which represent excellent potential for research and growth", with a turnover of "4.5 billion euros a year in the sector", explained the minister.

Urso then added that the Italian Government "plans to present a law linked to the next financial manoeuvre". The goal is "to have the law approved by Parliament by the autumn of next year" because "it is a law in which the critical issues that we consider important must be addressed": the recovery of space debris, militarization, the protection of national. Furthermore, "the Pnrr envisages investments of 1.2 billion euros to strengthen Earth observation systems".
