Geneva airport back in operation

The four-hour strike by the airport workers has ended

Geneva International Airport is back in operation starting at 10:00 today, Friday 30 June. The temporary suspension of air connections began this morning at 6:00 due to a strike by workers in the airport sector. The mobilization, which lasted four hours, had caused the total interruption of flights, with disruptions affecting around 8,000 passengers.

"The airlines will decide whether to maintain, cancel or delay their flights. The strike announced by the public services union is regrettable because it takes place on the first day of departure for holidays, including those of the employees", explained the spokesman of the airport manager, Ignace Jeannerat, yesterday.

The Swiss airport, hub of the airline easyJet Switzerland and Swiss International Air Lines, saw around 6.8 million passengers transit from January to May 2023. Numbers higher than those recorded in the period preceding the pandemic, so much so that 15.7 million passed in 2021 (there were 14.3 in 2019). A performance made possible by the numerous hires made in the post-covid period.
