That is why we ask the United States to impose economic sanctions, as the European Union, while the international community must recognize the Government of unity: we are not second-class citizens", declared Yimon Win Pe, a representative of the Burmese community in Italy, according to reports by the "Dire" news agency.

The opposition to the military junta "concerns the entire population, without distinction of age, gender or profession". But a war is also being fought in Myanmar -he adds- which "has caused enormous losses in the army, which is now calling even retired soldiers to fight. The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (Aapp) of Myanmar estimates over 21,000 arrests in the last 26 months, of which almost 17,500 people are still in custody, some of whom have already received a sentence.
