Portugal (2): privatization of the TAP airline

Three international companies to acquire the carrier: there is also Lufthansa

At least three airlines are evaluating the partial or total purchase of the Portuguese carrier Tap Air Portugal. Potential buyers are the German Lufthansa, the Franco-Dutch Air France-KLM and the International Airlines Group (owner of the British British Airways and the Spanish Iberia). These are the preliminary stages of the privatization procedure of the Portuguese company, pending the arrival of a new managing director.

The State of Portugal now owns 100% of the air carrier Tap. The company is currently undergoing restructuring as part of a rescue plan, approved by Brussels, worth 3.2 billion euros. In detail, Lisbon is evaluating a total or partial sale of the airline's capital.

Meanwhile, Luis Rodrigues has assumed the position of CEO of Tap, after the dismissal of ex-CEO Christine Ourmières-Widener, following a financial scandal. The manager will now take care, together with the Lusitanian Finance Minister, Fernando Medina, of the privatization process, which is thus getting into full swing. So much so that the three airlines concerned are allegedly selecting their own official legal advisers.
