Pentagon chooses Bell-Textron helicopters

Future Long Range Assault Aircraft development program outcome

The US Department of Defense signed a contract for the supply of new generation military helicoptersIn the past few hours, which will be supplied by the Bell-Textron company. The aircraft will replace approximately 2,000 aging UH-60 Black Hawks built by Sikorsky since the 1970s. Hereupon the company's share value to soar by +8.5%.

"Thoughtful and disciplined execution of Future Long Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA) program strategy will deliver the transformational capabilities we need to support joint force, strengthen deterrence, and win multi-domain operations", said Doug Bush, Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology.

Thus ends the competition between for the development of the "Future Vertical Lift" vehicle. In contention there were: the Bell V-280 "Valor" tiltrotor and the Sikorsky-Boeing SB-1 "Defiant". The Army said the first batch of helicopters in production will be worth 7.1 billion dollars, with an initial production premium of 232 million dollars. The contract will potentially be worth around 70 billion dollars over the next few decades.
