NATO summit in Bucharest started
Two days of meetings to talk about the Ukrainian war, energy, security and Chinese challenges
The meeting of the foreign ministers of the member countries of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) kicks off today in Bucharest, Romania . This is a high-level meeting that marks an essential stage in the definition of new strategies. Italy will be represented by the foreign minister, Antonio Tajani, vice president of the Council of Ministers of the Meloni government, who had a telephone conversation with the general secretary of the Atlantic Alliance, Jens Stoltenberg, over the week-end.
This is the program of the two days of meetings: today the public celebrations of the 20th anniversary of the Prague Summit of 2002 stand out, an event during which Romania, together with 6 other member states, was invited to join the Alliance, which happened in 2004. It will also be an occasion for the preparation of the future NATO summit in Vilnius in 2023.
Two working sessions are scheduled for tomorrow, in which will be examined: measures to strengthen defense and deterrence on the eastern flank of Europe; increased support from Kiev's allies; the fight against hybrid threats; the management of the challenges generated by China; strengthening the resilience of the Euro-Atlantic community, also in the energy field; the strategic assessment of the Alliance's global security challenges.
