Rome, Italy - Commission welcomes new powers to apply the competition rules
The Council of ministers adopted a Regulation last 26 February which gives the Commission full powers to apply the competition rules to air transport between the EU and third countries, in particular to alliances between EU and non-EU carriers. Until now the Commission lacked effective enforcement powers. Instead it had to rely on Article 85 for the assessment of cases such as world-wide aviation alliances...
