JAPAN AIRLINES TO MERGE WITH JAPAN AIR SYSTEM

TOKYO, Japan Airlines (JAL) and Japan Air System (JAS) will integrate their operations next year, probably during the fall. An official statement is expected to be released in the afternoon. The merger will permit the new airline to hold a market share of nearly 50%, raising the competition with All Nippon Airways.
