A press conference was held this morning on the occasion of “Airport Day”, an Italian event promoted by Assaeroporti, the Association of Italian Airports, which represents 26 airport management companies for 32 airports at national and European institutions. Carlo Borgomeo, the president of the Association, spoke during the meeting. “This Airport Day is a very innovative and complex initiative”, he commented, thanking the staff that organised the event, which involves 17 airports and is made up of widespread events that will take place in various locations in different cities throughout the day. 

“We are here because in air transport we talk about success. Passenger numbers have grown a lot since the post-pandemic, with numbers that have exceeded our expectations. This event was born out of an attempt to understand the issues that animate the debate when talking about airports and air transport, such as congestion in the skies and airports, tariffs, and sustainability”.

“On the issue of sustainability -the President pointed out- we are strongly committed. Yet this exaggerated focus on sustainability has led to the exclusion of airports from any kind of support and funding in the Pnrr”.

“As Assaeroporti we have decided to make a five-point manifesto that summarises the working objectives we have given ourselves: passenger rights, worker rights, inclusive airport communities, sustainability and technological innovation” -Borgomeo continued during his speech. “Given the success of the airport system in recent years, very important prospects are opening up”. 

The Manifesto of Italian Airports is a document that summarize, in five points, the values and objectives that drive the airport system. It is a shared commitment for a present and a future where mobility, development, innovation and inclusiveness travel together.
