Aircraft and transport: Trump revises FAA hiring criteria
Stop the policy that favored "Diversity, equity, and inclusion"; priority for "Safety and efficiency"
One of the first measures implemented by the new American President Donald J Trump was to get his hands on the hiring criteria within the Faa, Federal Aviation Administration, or the agency of the US Department of Transportation. It is stated clearly and emphatically in a directive, which states, literally, that "the madness of 'Dei' has been put to an end" that is Diversity, equity, and inclusion, or the policy that in terms of hiring gave priority to diversity, equity and inclusion, "restoring excellence and safety within the Faa", or hiring criteria based on merit.
Specifically: "Airlines should be overseen by the best employees: President Donald J. Trump has signed a presidential memorandum ending the Biden administration's Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) hiring policy, which prioritized Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) over safety and efficiency. This presidential memorandum directs the Secretary of Transportation and the FAA Administrator to immediately end Biden's 'DEI' hiring programs and return to nondiscriminatory, merit-based hiring.
It also requires the FAA Administrator to review the past performance and standards of all employees in safety-related positions and ensure that anyone who fails to demonstrate adequate ability is replaced by someone who can ensure the safety and efficiency of Americans' flights.
Millions of Americans rely on safe, on-time air travel every day: safety and competence should be the only employment criteria for FAA employees; yet the previous administration violated the public trust, as well as the law, by prioritizing illegal 'DEI' hiring.
Every day, more than 45,000 flights and 2.9 million airline passengers travelling for work, pleasure, or to visit friends and family trust their lives to the FAA. Incredibly, as a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (“DEI”) initiative, Biden’s FAA has specifically recruited and hired individuals with “severe” intellectual disabilities, psychiatric issues, and complete paralysis over others seeking FAA jobs".
The memo continues: "President Trump is immediately ending this illegal and dangerous program and requiring all hiring to be based solely on ensuring the safety of airline passengers and overall work excellence. On January 11, 2023, two weeks into a major air travel crisis, an FAA system outage caused by employee error grounded all flights for the first time since 9/11, demonstrating the importance of the FAA's expertise.
Delivering on the promise to end illegal discrimination and restore common sense: This presidential memorandum builds on the executive order issued on the first day of the Trump presidency, which ended the previous administration's illegal and immoral 'DEI-centered' discrimination programs".
In conclusion: "In his inaugural address, the president promised, 'We will build a society that is colorless and based on merit'. In his January 20, 2025 executive order ending 'Dei' programs and wasteful, radical government preferences, the president-elect said, 'Americans deserve a government committed to serving every person with equal dignity and respect, and to using precious taxpayer resources only to make America great again".
