Planes grounded at Houston airports: flights suspended due to bad weather

Today's temporary measure affects the "George Bush", the "William P. Hobby", and the Ellington Yard

"To prioritize the safety of our passengers and staff, and due to extremely hazardous road conditions throughout Houston, flight operations at George Bush Intercontinental Airport, William P. Hobby Airport and Ellington Airport are temporarily closed for the duration of the Winter storm, effective at 12:00 am Tuesday, January 21, local time", reads a statement from Houston's airport system.

The note recommends that holders of travel tickets contact their airline and, in general, given the state of the roads, refrain from driving to one of the airports mentioned.

"Houston Airports -the release continues- is deploying snowplows and heavy equipment to clear the airport and prepare for a safe return to operations as soon as weather conditions allow".
