Colombian Civil Aviation Authority Announces Beginning of Difficult Victims Recovery Phase

A search helicopter has located the wreckage of the Cessna 402C aircraft, registration HK2522, in a mountainous forest area of Colombia, which disappeared from radar screens around 5:00 pm local time on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, while it was en route from Juradó to the "Enrique Olaya Herrera" airport in Medellín with ten occupants on board. The crash occurred in the jurisdiction of Urrao, in the Colombian department of Antioquia.

An official statement released by the Colombian Civil Aviation Authority confirmed the discovery, and announced that the difficult recovery of the victims' bodies is underway. To facilitate these operations, "forces from the Civil Aviation Authority, the Colombian Air Force and the Civil Defence, coordinated by the local authorities of Antioquia, are reaching the site of the accident, which is difficult to access", the statement said.

The Cessna 402C was operated by Pacífica Aviación as an air taxi. According to Colonel Juan José López, director of air navigation operations for Colombian civil aviation, the search was immediately entrusted to an Air Force plane, but was later interrupted due to bad weather.
