Athens Airport lost European Union funding

Brussels, Belgium - Irregularities in requests for funding

The European Commission has reduced the new Athens International Airport aids worth almost EUR 13 million because it violated some EU rules. It seem in fact that recent controls made coming to light certain irregularities which brought the Commission to diminish contribution for the airport project worth around EUR 250 million. The air station opened in March 2001 and its 55% belongs to Greek Government....
