Aircraft-train. Agreement to offer connections in a single booking

Trenitalia and SkyTeam sign a MoU for combined itineraries

Trenitalia (FS Group) and SkyTeam, an alliance of airlines, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (Mou) to offer combined “air+train” itineraries in a single booking. The partnership will allow those arriving in Italy on a flight with a SkyTeam member carrier to reach a wide range of destinations across the country with Trenitalia’s high-speed trains. Travellers will be able to fly from New York-"JFK" to Rome-Fiumicino, collect their luggage, board a Frecciarossa and reach one of the destinations served.

Once the partnership is effective, the alliance's frequent flyer members will be able to earn and spend miles when they travel on selected Frecciarossa routes; similarly, members of Carta Freccia, Trenitalia's loyalty program for travellers, which has surpassed 10 million members, will be able to earn and spend points when they travel on selected SkyTeam flights. SkyPriority services will be offered, where possible, at train stations, for the benefit of SkyTeam Elite and Elite Plus members and Trenitalia CartaFreccia Platinum and Gold members.

There are currently 14 air companies that belong to SkyTeam that reach Italy from Europe, USA, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and China. The partnership is part of the global alliance's goal of making travel more integrated and seamless.

Trenitalia focuses on intermodality and sustainability and offers connections to 23 Italian airports, including the SkyTeam hub of Rome-Fiumicino. Frecciarossa is part of the Frecce network that reaches 150 destinations in Italy with over 270 daily services, and also runs on the tracks of Spain and France. The Italian cities served by the alliance companies include: Rome, Milan, Turin, Venice, Genoa, Bologna, Florence, Naples, Verona, Palermo, Catania, Bari and Cagliari.
