Impact of flight changes on Sardinian connectivity
There is a risk of a reduction in international connections from the island
Sardinia could lose important connections with international routes from next October 27. This concern was expressed by Ugo Cappellacci, deputy and head of the Insularity department of Forza Italia, and Ivan Piras, regional councilor. Both announced that they would raise the issue through Parliamentary questions addressed to the Minister of Transport and the regional councilor.
The changes implemented by the Region's programs have favored the introduction of Aeroitalia, determining new limitations for travellers moving from Sardinia to international destinations. The most highlighted criticality concerns the impossibility of purchasing a single ticket for these routes, significantly complicating the management of connections.
According to Cappellacci and Piras, travellers will have to face significant complications, such as collecting and returning luggage during stopovers in Rome and Milan, increasing waiting times and often making planned connections impracticable.
Delays in flights or baggage delivery, which are not uncommon, could cause the complete loss of scheduled connections. This scenario would represent a serious inconvenience for those travelling for health, study, work or even for tourism, a vital sector for the island's economy.
Considering the situation of apparent confusion on the part of the Regional Council on air continuity, politicians have appealed to the Government to intervene and encourage any private agreements aimed at solving a problem that risks further isolating Sardinia.
