Bergamo-Orio al Serio: Ryanair plane tire explodes during landing
The aircraft stopped on the runway and passengers evacuated; the airport is temporarily closed
An incident has created tension on board a Ryanair plane departing from Barcelona and headed to Bergamo's Orio al Serio airport, today on Tuesday 1st October around 08:00am. During the landing phase, one of the landing gear tires exploded. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among passengers or crewmembers.
As we write, the plane involved is stopped on the runway; emergency services were prompt, including the Fire Brigade, who promptly began evacuation operations of the passengers. The occurrence led to a temporary suspension of operations; an interruption that caused delays in scheduled departing flights and could lead to redirections or cancellations for incoming flights, until it is possible to completely clear and reopen the "Caravaggio" runway.
An episode that in a general sense underlines the importance of rigorous maintenance and control (to which the Ryanair fleet is certainly subjected), in the field of civil aviation, essential elements to guarantee the safety of passengers and staff. The situation is being managed and further updates will be provided by the airport manager Sacbo, as the competent authorities proceed with the investigations.
