New or modernized planes?

Dilemma companies struggling with fleet renewal

Modernize the planes or buy new ones? It is the dilemma that afflicts many air carrier, especially those that cannot afford to update their fleet by focusing only on the purchase or rental of latest generation airplanes, which in any case ensure lower fuel consumption and lower operating costs due to the maintenance that becomes marginal.

"Air transport is thriving again, but the market lacks capacity. Considering the delay in the acquisition of new aircraft and the growing shortage of aircraft in the secondary market, airlines are turning their eyes to older generation aircraft", explains Maksim Jurkov, Design Manager of the J&C Aero company, specialized in design, supply of spare parts, maintenance and interiors of aircraft.

In the last nine months the Lithuanian company has designed, built and installed the interiors of a twenty-year-old B-757/200 aircraft operated by a Central Asian airline. Thanks to cutting-edge seats, modern Passenger Service Unit (PSU), dynamic LED lighting, renovated toilets and kitchen, the cabin of the aircraft is now similar to that of a new B-737 MAX. Furthermore, the overall weight of the aircraft is almost 1000 kg less. Two more B-757s of the Central Asian company will be modernized by winter 2024.
