Air France-KLM below expectations
The quarterly operating result does not discourage investors
The operating profit of the Franco-Dutch Air France-KLM group fell to 513 million euros. These are the financial data for the second quarter of 2024. It is a worse result than expected, but one that has not discouraged investors. So much so that today, Thursday 25 July 2024, the stock on the stock market recorded a +1.04% at closing. A sign that the increase in operating costs and lower revenues are a cyclical fact.
"The second quarter of 2024 confirmed an increasingly challenging environment for aviation, with rising fuel prices and continued cost pressure. In this context, KLM and Transavia recorded a stable, if not brilliant, performance , while Air France has been affected by the economic crisis", said Benjamin Smith, CEO of the Group, as stated in the airline's press release.
It must be said, however, that the operating result for the second quarter of 2024 marks a loss of -220 million euros compared to that of last year, when Air France-KLM collected 547 million euros. The company explained that the increase in costs is mainly due to higher workers' salaries and airport fares (Schiphol and Paris), underlining that however the costs of strikes have stabilized.
