Cologne Airport: dozens of flights delayed and cancelled
Stopover returns to operation after environmentalist protest
The German international airport "Konrad Adenauer" in Cologne-Bonn is back in operation. Departing and arriving flights were suspended at dawn due to a protest by environmentalists from the Last Generation group, who invaded the runway and glued their hands to the asphalt. At the moment there are some delays in departures, while numerous incoming flight connections have been canceled and delayed at least until early afternoon.
"Oil kills. The international protest campaign has begun. Last generation supporters are currently on the tarmac at Cologne-Bonn airport, disturbing air traffic. At the same time, protests are taking place at stopover in over 10 countries in the whole world", we read in a post published on social networks by the network of environmental activists. They call for stopping the use of fossil fuels entirely by 2030.
The airport management company, Flughafen Köln-Bonn, informs passengers on its website about the situation at the stopover: "Flight operations have resumed. On Wednesday morning, 24 July 2024, unauthorized persons had access to the security area of the "Cologne-Bonn airport. The police operation at the airport has ended. Disruptions in the form of flight delays and cancellations are expected during the day".
