It wouldn't be a hacker attack, but a global IT problem
A bad Friday for passengers around the world. Today numerous airports have suspended departing and arriving flight due to a technical failure affecting the IT network. Disruptions have been reported in Europe, Australia and the United States but other continents could be affected by the problem. Meanwhile, the Spanish airport manager Aeropuertos Españoles y Navegación Aérea (Aena) spreads the alarm.
"Due to a malfunction in the IT system, changes are occurring in the Aena systems and in the airports of the network in Spain which could cause delays. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible. In the meantime, operations with manual systems are being developed", on read in a note published on the operator's website.
But what happened? First of all, it wouldn't be a hacker attack. The global IT problem appears to have originated from an error in updating software used by many companies, organizations and public administrations. According to rumors in the press, it would be the Crowdstrike cybersecurity program, which is not working properly due to a configuration error.
