Bosnia rejects firefighting aid from Serbia
It relies on armed forces fleet due to growing tension between countries
The government of Bosnia and Herzegovina would not have authorized the use of fire-fighting helicopters made available by Serbia. The reason? The growing tension between the two countries. Meanwhile, several fires are burning the territory but the Sarajevo government has preferred to avoid "taking a longer route", instead relying on the Bosnian armed forces.
This was reported by the Bosnian newspaper "Sarajevo Times", which cites as its source a statement by Foreign Minister Elmedin Konaković: "We have received a request from the civil protection of Serbia, as in all other cases our on-call services receive this type of request and forward it to the competent institutions".
"The armed forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina -added the politician- already provide this type of support in situations like this and, unlike the representatives of the authorities of the Serbian republic, I would never stop any action that saves human lives or prevents damage".
