Italy. Cagliari Airport: the crux of the Court of Auditors
Judges believe that the Privatization should be linked to a public tender procedure
The creation of a single-managed Sardinian airport network would be tied to a public procedure, according to what the Italian Court of Auditors said months ago. It is necessary to keep this in mind now that the president of the Sardinia Region, Alessandra Todde, has declared that she intends to participate in the operation which will see the three ports of the island ("Mario Mameli" of Cagliari-Elmas, Olbia-Costa Smeralda and "Riviera del Corallo" of Alghero-Fertilia) led under a single direction.
The words of the judges of the Court of Auditors, in fact, have a precise meaning: the privatization of the Cagliari airport, being today a public asset managed by the Sogaer company (94.353% in the hands of the Cagliari Chamber of Commerce), must take place through a tender notice and the procedure must justify the transfer to private individuals. In short, the F2I Group would not be the only potential buyer.
In any case, at the moment the Todde Council could withdraw the appeals presented by ex-president Christian Solinas, who was against privatization. Evidence of this change of vision is the letter sent by Todde to the president of the Cagliari Chamber of Commerce, Maurizio De Pascale. F2i-Ligantia (which controls Olbia and Alghero) has Cagliari in its sights and would be ready together with the Region to invest 230 million euros in seven years to have 13 million passengers per year (+4 million). Confcommercio and Federalberghi are against the operation.
