Italy. Sardinia air transport: "Stop municipal boarding tax"

Regional councilor Truzzu (FdI) announces presentation of motion

The municipal surcharge introduced at various airports for the boarding of passengers in Italy remains among the most discussed issues in the air transport sector. A political controversy that fuels parochialism between the ports, as happens between Trieste and Venice. A topic that is deeply felt especially by low-cost airlines such as Ryanair, and by associations in the tourism sector, which underline its negative impact in terms of fewer passengers transported.

"After Friuli Venezia Giulia and Calabria, Sardinia must also disapply the municipal surcharge on the right of boarding of passengers in the three Sardinian airports", denounced the Sardinian regional councilor Paolo Truzzu (FdI), announcing that in the next few days the oppositions will file a motion to ask that from January 2025 the tax no longer be applied on the island.

"The abolition of the airport tax -added the politician- leading to a reduction in the cost borne by the air carrier and, therefore, in the cost of the ticket, represents a step forward both in the application of the fundamental right of Sardinians to mobility and in growth economy of the island, allowing companies to increase connections between Sardinian airports and the main Italian and European cities".
