South Italy. Salerno airport inaugurated
Salvini (Transport): "The airport system will bring thousands of jobs to the area"
The Campania airport of Salerno-Costa d'Amalfi returned to operation today after years of closure. This morning, Thursday 11 July 2024, a plane landed from Milan-Malpensa airport (flight EJU3609) and operated by the Spanish low-cost airline Volotea. The inauguration was attended by national and local politicians. A positive economic impact is expected across the entire territory.
From "today in Salerno an airport system will bring thousands of jobs to the area, which connects Salerno and Campania to Italy with London, Berlin and other countries in the world". "I expect all the funds to be released but not for Campania, for the whole of Italy", declared the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT), Matteo Salvini, vice-president of the Council of Ministers, present today at the inauguration of the airport .
Along the same lines, the president of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca, who was also present at the airport, wrote on his Facebook page: "A historic day: this morning the first landing and the first departure from Salerno-Costa d' airport Amalfi. It took almost twenty years of work to achieve this result".
"The turning point -he added- was the initiative of the Campania Region which unified the management of the Salerno airport with that of Naples-Capodichino, with Gesac carrying forward the entire project. In this way we managed to to materialize the investment, to follow a complex procedure, to give breathing space to Capodichino and, at the same time, to create the second airport in the region".
