Italy. 49% of 2i Airports to Asterion
The sales procedure was launched at the end of 2023
The Spanish fund Asterion Industrial Partners, an investment management company specializing in European infrastructure, would have been awarded a 49% share of the italian holding 2i Aeroporti. The stake being sold is in the hands of the private equity company Ardian and Crédit Agricole Assurance. The majority, 51%, will remain in the hands of the Italian fund F2i, which will therefore maintain control over some of the major Italian airports.
The 2i Aeroporti company holds 100% of the Turin airport (Sagat), over 83% of those of Naples and Salerno (Gesac), 55% of Trieste (Afvg), more than 36% in the Milanese airports of Linate and Malpensa (Sea), 4.09% of Bologna (AgmB). Furthermore, through F2i Aeroporti 2 sgr it controls 71.25% of the Sardinian airports of Alghero (Sogeaal) and 80% of Olbia (Geasar). The estimated total value of the company is around one billion euros.
The procedure for the sale of 49% of 2i Aeroporti was started at the end of 2023. At the moment the negotiation has not been officially closed but, according to what the economic newspaper "Affari Italiani" reveals, Asterion is negotiating exclusively with the two sellers. If the rumors were confirmed, the Spanish fund would have prevailed over its main rival: the Canadian pension fund Caisse de depot et placement du Quebec (Cdpq).
