Italy: tourism at +12% in Summer
The estimates of the International Tourism Exchange (Bit)
In the Summer, traffic at Italian airports deriving from international air connections should record a +12% in arrivals: a sector driven by long-haul flights from the United States (+14%) and medium-haul ones including Spain (+44 %), Denmark (+43%) and Austria (+30%). The data refers to the increase in passengers transited compared to the period June-August 2023. This is what emerges from the estimates of the International Tourism Exchange (Bit).
"The data confirms a strong growth sector. Italy is also first in terms of sentiment and the more foreigners there are, the more concentration in the same periods is attenuated", explains Magda Antonioli, vice-president of the European Travel Commission, the international association that represents national tourism organizations in Europe.
The positive air traffic data in Italy confirms the trend recorded in recent years. According to Italian Assaeroporti data, in May 2024 there were 20.1 million passengers transiting (+13.2% compared to 2023) and over 159,000 aircraft movements (+10.3%) on the runways of Italian airports.
