Palermo Airport: 18 million euros arriving

Allocation announced by the Region to improve terminals

Thanks to the Italian Development and Cohesion Fund (FSC, Fondo per lo sviluppo e la coesione), the future of the "Falcone-Borsellino" international airport of Palermo-Punta Raisi will be bright. The Sicily Region has in fact accepted the request of the Palermo airport management company (Gesap) to receive an allocation of money for the improvement of the airport, among the main and busiest in Italy.

"The regional government has decided to allocate 18 million euros, at the request of Gesap, for the improvement of the Palermo airport terminal. On the one hand, however, the Region finances, on the other Gesap and its partners do not accept the invitation of the government to privatization", explained the president of the Sicilian Region, Renato Schifani, on the sidelines of an event today.

"Palermo and Catania are the only airports in all of Italy that are still in public hands. It's not a question of handing it over to private individuals. It's a question of not exposing Gesap, if it doesn't privatise, to an investment plan worth 50 million Euro that ENAC is asking for. With a sense of responsibility, we confirm our willingness to invest", concluded the President of the Region, explaining to reporters the reason for this allocation.
