UK airports will still maintain the 100ml limit on liquids you can bring on board the plane. The goal was to raise the limit to two liters in all airports in the country by 2024. This should have happened thanks to the introduction of new scanner machines. However, most airports were unable to equip themselves with these machines in time.

The reintroduction of the restrictions "is not a response to a specific threat, but will allow for further improvements to the new control systems. It is a temporary measure and in due course we will establish when it can be lifted", explained the transport department, led by Mark Harper.

This is a real step backwards, after the 100 ml limit had already been removed in many airports. Instead, from Sunday 9 June 2024 this threshold has been reintroduced for passengers at Newcastle, Leeds-Bradford, London-City, Aberdeen, Southend and Teesside airports. The latter were the first airports in the United Kingdom to adapt to the new rules.
