Belgium purchases new military helicopters

Deliveries are expected to start in 2027

Belgium government will purchase 18 H-145M multi-role military rotorcraft produced by Airbus Helicopters. In detail, 16 aircraft will be allocated to the armed forces and two unit to the police. The acquisition program also includes an option for two further examples to be used by law enforcement agencies. Deliveries are expected to start in 2027.

The estimated value of the order is approximately 251 million euros, including services such as staff training, logistical support and the supply of spare parts. With the purchase of the new aircraft, Belgium aims to modernize the fleet, replacing the older rotary-wing aircraft such as the AgustaWestland AW-109 and four NH Industries NH-90TTH of the armed forces, and two MD Helicopters MD-900 "Explorer" of the police.

The H-145M military helicopter is a multi-role vehicle powered by two Turbomeca Arriel 2E engines (power 575 kW each) and equipped with digital thruster control (Fadec), which ensure a maximum speed of 268 km/h, with 241 km /h in cruise, for a range of 663 km. The aircraft offers a wide range of operational capabilities from patrol to transport.
