Italian Government would have given the green light to the planned sale of the Microtecnica company (Collins Aerospace Group), which produces aircraft components, to the French company Safran, which operates in the automotive and defense sectors. This is what the French company announced today, which stated that it had received authorization for the acquisition. This is a deal worth 1.8 billion dollars.

Microtecnica is an Italian company that holds the flight control activities of Collins Aerospace in Italy. In November 2023, the Meloni Government vetoed the sale, referring to the "Golden Power", thats is the regulatory mechanism that protects assets of national interest. The reason? Concerns about the possible blockage of supplies to the Italian Armed Forces due to the interruption of logistics chains.

“"We believe these obstacles are likely limited, given that Safran is not currently a significant player in flight controls and actuators", is the analysis from financial advisory firm Jefferies. Safran announced that it has made "compatible commitments that respond to the concerns expressed in the first Italian decree of 16 November 2023 and that provide adequate protection of Italian national interests".
