National carrier Air India plans to complete the merger with Vistara airline by the end of 2024. The company has already received the green light for the sale from Indian and foreign competition regulators.

"Any day now" the company awaits legal authorization from India's National Company Law Tribunal. "In addition to this, we are working with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation on the procedure for transferring aircraft from one operating certificate to another, as well as the transfer of systems, data and reservations. The Vistara company is a joint venture between the Indian Tata Group (which controls 100% of Air India) and the airline Singapore Airlines. Following the merger, the latter will own 25.1% of Air India, while the rest will be held by Tata Group. The merger between the two airlines will pose a challenge to rival airline IndiGo, a low-cost carrier that currently holds a 57.5% share of the Indian domestic route market.
