Fatal plane crash in Türkiye

Italian-made Turkish Air Force two-seater aircraft crashes

A Siai-Marchetti SF-260D single-engine military aircraft (registration number 93-0813) of the Turkish Air Force crashed today in Turkey, causing the death of the two occupants on board. The accident occurred in the province of Kayseri, in Anatolia, in the central part of the Middle Eastern country. It was an aircraft used for pilot training.

The Turkish Defense Ministry explained that the plane belonged to the 12th Air Transport Main Base Command in Kayseri. The causes and exact dynamics of the accident are currently unknown. Eyewitnesses told the "Daily Sabah" newspaper that the two pilots had changed the direction of the plane as it fell towards the ground, to avoid hitting the numerous farmers working in the fields.

"The plane lost control and wasn't making any noise. It came straight towards us. There were 15 people in the field. I guess the pilot spotted us and that's why he landed upside down. It exploded as soon as it hit the ground. We tried to intervene, but we couldn't do anything because of the fire", said Salih Içer, a farmer interviewed by the "Anadolu" news agency.
