Austria and Sweden will receive US military helicopters

Washington approves sale of 12 "Black Hawk" aircraft

The sale of 12 UH-60M "Black Hawk" military helicopters to Austria and Sweden has been approved by the United States. The State Department gave the green light, approving the sale of aircraft produced by the American Sikorsky. The overall value of the deal is close to two billion dollars and includes the supply of equipment and logistical support. The US Congress will have 30 days to evaluate the agreements.

In detail, the contracts provide for an agreement worth 1.05 billion dollars with Austria and 1.05 billion with Sweden; in addition to the 12 helicopters, the agreement provides for the acquisition of 30 General Motors T700-GE-701D engines (24 installed and 6 in reserve), 17 AN/AAR-57 missile warning systems, EBC-406HM emergency radio transmitters, as well as software, staff training, transportation, spare parts supply and maintenance.

The agreements with the two European countries have a dual objective: to support the goals of the foreign and national security policy of the United States, and at the same time improve the security and defense capabilities of a member state of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) , that is Sweden, and a partner nation such as Austria.
