Russian technicians have successfully tested the vertical tail plane of the Yakovlev MC-21 aircraft. This is the centerboard and rudder produced by the national industry, made of composite materials. The use of new tail feathers made in Russia is part of a framework of initiatives made necessary by the need to reduce Moscow's dependence on foreign suppliers. 

Various components that made up the MC-21 aircraft, in fact, can no longer be used due to the international economic sanctions imposed by the West after the Russian military invasion in Ukraine. Therefore, the United Aircraft Corporation (Uac) Group, which controls the Yakovlev manufacturer, is implementing a series of efforts to have the domestic industry produce aeronautical parts. 

In detail, the Russian Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute performed endurance tests, simulating 10,000 flights and finding that the vertical tail plane "resisted without damage". The "stress" tests would be conducted using mechanical systems that imposed specific loads, then collecting and evaluating the data. Yakovlev said that the horizontal stabilizer, the cabin floor, the doors and the windshield will soon be tested.
