The privatization of the national carrier Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) would have attracted the interest of 10 companies ready to purchase a majority share of the airline. The subjects presented expressions of interest for the acquisition of 51-100% of the share capital and management control of the company. The government hopes to conclude the sale of part of the airline by mid-2024. 

It cwas reported by the Pakistani newspaper "Dawn". According to rumors in the press, the companies involved also include the low-cost airline Fly Jinnah, the airlines AirSial and AirBlue. Added to these are the Arif Habib Group, the Shujaat Azeem Group consortium, Tabba, Tariq Group, Omni Group Pioneer Cement, Sehgal Group. Foreign entities include Uprise Group, which in the past had unsuccessfully attempted to acquire South African Express.

These companies responded to the request of the Pakistani Privatization Commission, which on 2 April 2024 started collecting expressions of interest for Pakistan International Airlines. Sending such a request does not obligate any party to participate in any future tender process.
