"MilleMiglia" Alitalia acquired by Trenitalia

Former airline loyalty program will have synergy with "Carta Freccia"

The Italian railway State company Trenitalia (FS Group), specialized in the rail passenger transport service, has bought the historic MilleMiglia-My Miglia loyalty program of the former national airline Alitalia. At the moment, the award price of the tender, coordinated by the extraordinary commissioners of the carrier Giuseppe Leogrande, Daniele Umberto Santosuosso and Gabriele Fava, is not known.

"MilleMiglia" should have passed from Alitalia to the new national carrier ITA Airways. The transition was blocked because the European Commission had underlined the need to break any continuity between the two airlines. Thus, in 2021 the commissioners of Alitalia in extraordinary administration set a starting price of over 50.5 million euros. The last tender in April 2023, however, did not provide a minimum amount for the admitted offers. A sign that the value of the "MilleMiglia-My Miglia" program has declined over time.

Now, however, it is in the hands of Trenitalia, which has undertaken to leave the workforce of around 30 employees unchanged (Italia Loyalty company). Thanks to this acquisition, the railway company will have at its disposal a database with over 6.2 million people still registered in the loyalty program of the former State airline, as well as more than 40 partner companies. The program will be modified to create synergies with the "Arrow Card".
