Italy. Sardinia: territorial continuity in chaos

Italian Uiltrasporti union: "The new council guarantees the right to mobility of Sardinians"

Air Territorial continuity in the chaos in Sardinia. Some passengers resident on the Italian island, workers and protected groups of travelers are not benefiting from the mandatory services imposed on air carriers as a public transport burden compensated by the Region and the Italian Government. Furthermore, in view of Easter the national airline ITA Airways would have inflated the prices of tickets for flights between Cagliari and Milan-Linate and Rome-Fiumicino.

"A year and a half after the assignment of the routes, in two out of three airports services which have always been guaranteed in 20 years such as the transport of stretchers and oxygen therapy are still not active, increasing the inconvenience and inefficiencies for passengers with specific needs. details related to health issues", declares the regional secretary of the Italian Uiltrasporti union, Elisabetta Manca .

"We are aware -she adds- that given the timing, an extension to the current tender expiring in October is highly probable but we hope that the new regional council, as soon as it is installed, will immediately guarantee respect for the right to mobility of Sardinians and of the rules by the operating carriers, continuity awaiting a model that pays greater attention to the needs of passengers rather than to the cash needs of the carriers, to the quality of the service offered rather than to the economic savings of the company in question".

The Italian union reports that between the end of March and the beginning of April, ITA will apply an increase of 10 Euros each way on the Cagliari-Linate route and of 7 Euros on the Cagliari-Fiumicino route. Below is a list of "smart tricks" on the part of some companies: the continuous ticket can be modified or canceled within an hour of departure but some airlines set a limit of three hours; those who purchase a flight for workers and cannot demonstrate the requirement three hours before departure are forced to pay up to 300 Euros for a last-minute fare. The union asks for greater seriousness.
