United boosts training
Announcement comes after the airline reported six occurrences in two weeks
The top management of the US carrier United Airlines has announced that it will update training and safety procedures for the company's employees. The announcement comes after the airline recorded five occurrences in the space of seven days, six in two weeks: a turnaround after a warning light came on, an engine on fire, the loss of a tire, an off-piste after landing, a problem with the hydraulic system.
The airline will learn the "right lessons" and "continue to run an operation that puts safety first. While they are not all related, I want you to know that these incidents have caught our attention and sharpened our concentration", declared the airline's CEO, Scott Kirby, in recent hours.
The latest event dates back to Friday, March 15, 2024, when an external panel was found missing on board a plane upon landing in Oregon, prompting the opening of an investigation by US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Kirby said United Airlines has added an extra day to the training schedule for all pilots and maintainers starting in May 2024.
