Italy strengthens controls at ports and airports to limit the circulation of the "Dengue" virus. It was established in a new circular published by the direction of the Ministry of Health, led by Orazio Schillaci, which clarifies the surveillance measures of planes, ships and goods, to limit the circulation of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, introduced into the country.

"Doing tests at the airport for those arriving from countries at risk is just an enormous effort, you will never make it and you will lose the many who arrive with stopovers or by different means. It seems to me to be a mistake like the one made with Covid. Instead, let's do a raising awareness of diseases transmitted by mosquitoes, without scaring but informing in order to know", claims infectious disease specialist Matteo Bassetti, interviewed by the Italian press agency "Adnkronos".

"Today we need awareness raising activities towards citizens, doctors and healthcare facilities, but we are also needed on Zika and Chikungunya. We must equip ourselves -concludes the expert- with rapid and molecular tests and start with disinfestation against mosquitoes with larvicides already now in the Spring".
