China Airlines sells five cargo planes

They will be sold to two foreign operators specialized in the air freighter sector

The Taiwanese national carrier China Airlines has announced the signing of an agreement for the sale of five B-747 cargo aircraft. The planes will be sold to two foreign operators: an Asian airline and an Icelandic company specializing in the air freighter sector. The delivery of these fixed-wing aircraft is scheduled for the period between April and October 2024.

These are the details of the operation: three 747/400F aircraft will be sold to the Air Atlanta Islandic company for an estimated value of 83 million dollars, with a loss of up to 30 million compared to market prices; two additional 747/400F planes will be sold to the South Korean carrier Asiana Airlines for 55 million dollars, with a loss of 7 million dollars compared to market values.

The fleet of the Taiwanese carrier China Airlines includes approximately 10 B-747/400F aircraft, all powered by General Electric CF6 engines. In 2023 the company had awarded the British company Aircraft Maintenance Systems (Ams) an exclusive mandate for the sale of five 747/400Fs, all produced between 2001 and 2003.
