Egypt: international tender for airports

The call for bids for the management of 28 airports will be launched in the next few days

The Government of Egypt wants to entrust the management and development of its 28 airports, of which nine are of international importance. With this objective, in the next few days Cairo will publish an international tender in which groups and management companies from all over the world will be able to participate. This is a deal that could appeal to many, considering the good performances recorded by the North African country's market.

"The tender aims to improve the services offered to passengers, as well as to develop and improve the performance of Egyptian airports", announced the Egyptian Minister of Civil Aviation, Mohamad Abbas Helmy, interviewed by the television broadcaster "Cnbc Arabia".

In 2023, the total number of air passengers through Egypt amounted to 47 million, marking a growth of +28% compared to the previous year. In particular, the "Sphinx" international airport in Cairo recorded the greatest increase with 26 million travelers per year. In January 2024, the Egyptian government announced that it wanted to build a new terminal in the capital's airport by 2027, to bring the capacity of the infrastructure to 30 million transits.
