Indian IndiGo Airlines is looking to lease around 12 aircraft from the secondary market and to lease up to eight airframes (including fuselage, undercarriage, wings) to accommodate the grounding of several A-320 aircraft /200N and A-321/200NX due to problems in the supply chain of the engines produced by the US company Pratt & Whitney.

"We are in a period of continuous evaluation of the options available. Our company policy does not include comments on speculation in the press, we will share any information when we have something to say and in the ways we deem appropriate", the Indian airline said in an interview realised by the specialized web portal "Ch-aviation".

According to insiders, among the 12 aircraft that IndiGo will rent there will be two B-777/300ERs from the Turkish Airlines and 10 A-320/200 airplanes from the Baltic charter company SmartLynx Airlines. As for the other eight aircraft, IndiGo is in negotiations with various leasing companies and airlines, including Qatar Airways for five units and the low-cost Ryanair for three.
