USA-Israel: first flight restored
Lufthansa, Swiss Air, Austrian, Aegean, Air France, United are reactivating air connections
The US United Airlines has declared in recent days that it plans to restore direct flight to Israel. The first air connection should be operated at the beginning of March 2024. This is the first American airline to resume transport service after the military attack conducted against Israel by Hamas militiamen, that control the Gaza Strip, on 7 October.
The flight, operated with a B-787 Dreamliner aircraft, will connect New York's Newark-Liberty airport daily with the "Ben Gurion" airport in Tel Aviv starting from March 6, 2024. Newark-Tel Aviv flights will be operated on March 2 and 4 with a stopover in Munich (return on 3 and 5 March). The restart of services marks a potential turning point for travel to Israel, after tourism collapsed and with it the country's economy.
However, United Airlines will not restart any flights between the United States and Israel until at least next fall. In October 2022 the company, together with American Airlines and Delta Air Lines, had suspended connections between the two countries for safety reasons. Lufthansa, Swiss Air, Austrian, Aegean and Air France have already restarted flights to Tel Aviv.
