Greece receives three military helicopters

First MH-60R Seahawk aircraft arriving

Greece will receive the first three MH-60R "Seahawk" amphibious military helicopters in the coming months. This is the first batch of an order that includes a total of seven rotary-wing vehicles produced by the American company Sikorsky (Lockheed Martin Group), which made the announcement after the conclusion of the first flight tests. The remaining four aircraft will be delivered in 2025.

These three helicopters will be destined for the Hellenic Navy. Greece placed the order between July 2020 and April 2021. These vehicles will join the 11 Sikorsky S-70B "Seahawk" aircraft, purchased between 1994 and 2005, present at the Kotroni naval air base, located in northwest of Marathonas, eastern Attica. Athens is the seventh country in the world to receive the MH-60R, including Denmark (9 helicopters), Spain and Norway (14) in Europe.

The MH-60R made its first flight in 2001 and was adopted by the US Navy in 2006. Its avionics include dual controls for two pilots. Offensive capabilities include Mk-54 torpedoes and Hellfire missiles. The aircraft is designed to operate transport, anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare missions against amphibious and naval vessels.
