London loosens controls on flights to Ukraine
Measure concerns passengers flying for urgent work commitments and family reasons
The United Kingdom today announced the partial easing of security requirements for travelers to or from airports located in the western regions of Ukraine (Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, Chernivtsi). The measure concerns those who fly for urgent work commitments and family reasons. After the Russian military invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, London advised its citizens against travel to those places.
"We continue to advise against all travel to the rest of Ukraine, including the capital Kiev", reads a note released by the Foreign Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). The British Foreign Office said this relative change reflects the improvement in security conditions in Ukrainian airspace. This is thanks to the defense systems provided by the West, which allow Kiev to better cope with Russian attacks.
