X-59 supersonic aircraft unveiled

It should take off for the first time during 2024 - VIDEO

The X-59 supersonic aircraft is expected to take off for the first time in 2024. The plane is developed in the United States by the American company Lockheed Martin, specialized in the defense and aerospace sectors, and by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (Nasa). In recent days they have officially presented their aircraft to the public. According to the technicians, it will be able to reach a maximum speed of 1488 kilometers per hour.

"The X-59's thin, tapered nose is almost a third of its length and interrupts shock waves that would normally cause a sonic boom", explained the Nasa space agency. The aircraft has a wingspan of nine meters and a length of 28.6 meters.

The presentation ceremony was held at Lockheed Martin's "Skunkworks" laboratories in Palmdale, California. The flight will be performed after the completion of ongoing tests. It is a one-of-a-kind experimental model that aims to "pave the way for a new generation of supersonic commercial aircraft", which represent an evolution of the Concorde.
