Brazil: agreement with airlines on discounted flights
Agreement with three airlines in exchange for discounts on fuel prices
Agreement between the Brazilian government and three major airlines to offer air connections at discounted prices. The companies involved are Gol Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes, Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras and Latam Airlines Brasil, which have joined the state program "Voa Brasil" (Vola Brasile, EN), which provides financial support to airlines that operate flights at controlled costs.
"The agreement includes maximum prices of up to 150 Euros for a limited number of airline tickets, as well as special promotions for bookings and a general increase in the offer of flights", explained in a note the Ministry of Ports and Airports, led by Sílvio Costa Filho. Initiative which follows the words of the President of Brazil Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva: "It is often cheaper to travel from Sao Paulo to Miami than from one Brazilian state to another".
The agreement will come into force from January 2024. In exchange for discounts on the price of jet fuel (40% of airlines' operating costs) from the government, Azul airline will sell 10 million tickets at a price of up to 150 Euros, while Gol will offer 15 million seats with a maximum fare of 130 Euros, finally Latam will provide tickets to a different destination every week for around 40 Euros.
