Germany will purchase 82 military helicopters
The deal is worth 2.5 billion euros; first green light by Defense commission
Germany is about to sign a mega-contract for the purchase of H-145M military combat helicopters: according to rumours, the order, which includes aircraft actually purchased and others optioned, would concern 82 rotary-wing vehicles. These would be destined for the Bundeswehr, that is the German armed forces, to be used as attack units and for training.
This is what the French newspaper "La Tribune" reports, quoting a tweet from parliamentarian Joe Weingarten (SPD). On social media the politician announced that the German defense commission approved the order yesterday. The value of the deal could reach up to 2.7 billion euros. The Airbus helicopters would be produced in Germany, at the Donauwörth plant in Bavaria. Now, the order will be examined by the finance commission.
According to French media, the sale could be concluded between the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024. This is a move that is part of the initiatives with which Berlin seeks to strengthen the country's defense capabilities. To achieve this goal, Chancellor Olaf Scholz has put 100 billion euros on the table. In addition to the H-145M helicopter, Berlin is evaluating an order for 40 aircraft to modernize the fleet of the German Federal Police: in the running are the Sikorsky S-92 and the H-225 from Airbus Helicopters.
